Pollinators, Self Love, + Connection
with Ali Beckman
What do Pollinators have to do with Self Love? A lot, actually! In this week's episode of the Find Your Feminine Fire Podcast, I'm talking with artist Ali Beckman of @soflytaxidermy all about intimate belonging, pollinators, confidence, and more.
In her debut book, Bee a Good Human: A Pollinator’s Guide to a Better Life, Beckman illustrates the importance of pollinators along with a healthy dose of body positivity and mental health awareness through her witty comics featuring actual insects in everyday situations. Through the cartoons, Beckman shares a narrative of self-growth and finding confidence within, all while making people laugh. The genius behind her work is that the insects many people fear reflect back our own insecurities and hopes, allowing us all to see our significance in the world.

Ali Beckman is the creator of @SoFlyTaxidermy on Instagram. In 2016, she came home one day to find two dead flies lying next to each other. She couldn’t get over the image of the two flies having a conversation before they died. So, she grabbed a piece of paper, picked up the flies, got her pen out, and started drawing.
Beckman, using creatures that are donated, purchased, or found dead to create amusing cartoons, highlights the integral role insects have in our environment. Typically, honeybees are considered the only pollinator worth saving, but pollinators, like people, come in all shapes and sizes! Did you know a tiny midge, cousin to the fly, pollinates chocolate? Or that beetles are essential for pollinating some flowers? Insects and their contributions to our ecosystem are hard to ignore: without them, our planet wouldn't survive.
Beyond bugs, however, Beckman’s art speaks to the importance of self-love. Through the cartoons, Beckman shares a narrative of self-growth and finding confidence within, all while making people laugh. Get her book HERE.
